We would like to say a massive congratulations to our Motorfreight Driver, Nigel Gamble. Nigel recently competed in the European Vintage Ploughing Championships in Nottinghamshire, coming in second in the Classic Conventional Class - a fantastic achievement. Nigel comes from a family with a strong tradition in ploughing, hear what he had to say below:
"My love for ploughing started young—my father had a real passion for it, and I used to tag along with him every chance I got. I began with a little Ferguson tractor, and I’ve never looked back. Today, I proudly represent the Ballynure Ploughing Society and regularly take part in local matches. It’s more than a sport—it’s a community. I love catching up with old friends and meeting new faces along the way.
For me, ploughing is a way to switch off. It’s peaceful, focused, and surprisingly therapeutic—although keeping the machinery in top shape is no easy task!
This year, I had the privilege of representing Woodside Motorfreight at the European Vintage Ploughing Championships in Nottinghamshire. The event was a two-day international competition, with participants from eight countries. I competed in the Classic Conventional Class and was delighted to finish 2nd overall.
Ploughing reminds me a lot of my work—loading cars on transporters requires the same level of precision and concentration as ploughing.
I would like to thank the company for all of their support over the years, when I first started, Ian Woodside sponsored me in the Carlow Championship. Ian & Robert would both regularly check in with me to see how I was getting on, which meant a lot. Tim Woodside has generously continued to sponsor me for this year's European Championships, I am incredibly grateful for the ongoing support I have received over the years."
