Woodside Logistics Group Driver Trainers Niki Cromie and Darren Cairns, alongside Air Ambulance NI launch the Inaugural ‘Woodside Depot Trek Challenge 2022’ Event at Air Ambulance NI Offices.
Now in its second year, the event will take place on Saturday 18th June and will see Woodside’s employees take to the streets or climb mountains to raise vital funds for charity partner Air Ambulance NI. On the back of the success from last year’s challenge, Woodside Logistics Group raised just shy of £2,000 for the charity and aim to try and succeed this at the 2022 event.
This 18th June two of Woodside’s Driver Trainers (Niki and Darren), will undertake the ultimate challenge. Running a 10K from Maghaberry Village to the Air Ambulance NI Base, where they will mount on their bikes and cycle the 28 miles to Newcastle, Co-Down. Swapping the bikes for walking boots, they will embark on the 4 hour climb and decent of Slieve Donard Mountain, and finish the challenge by cycling the 28 miles back to the Air Ambulance NI base. Joining them throughout the course will be other employees from the group.
Stef Foster Marketing & Communications Manager, Woodside Logistics Group said:
“We are delighted to continue our long serving partnership with Air Ambulance NI for 2022 and look forward to getting back out, doing face to face events and raising funds for this great charity. Having worked with Air Ambulance NI for over 4 years, we understand the extreme importance this service has on the quick and assessable response to an incident with Northern Ireland.”
Darren Cairns Driver Trainer, Woodside Logistics Group said:
“Woodside’s have been supporting Air Ambulance NI for a while and after taking part in last year’s trek, I wanted to try and do something a little different and more physically challenging. I think keeping fit and healthy is a great way to stay motivated and help clear the mind. Woodside’s have invested heavily in our employees mental wellbeing, by training staff including myself in Mental Health First Aid and I feel getting out doors and doing these challenges is a great way to release those positive endorphins.”
Niki Cromie Driver Trainer, Woodside Logistics Group said:
“I’m not really sure what I have let myself in for, but I’m really looking forward to testing myself both physically and mentally. We have been training for a couple of months now and I hope that others from the group come on board and take on some of this adventure with us.”
Grace Williams, Area Fundraising Manager for the Air Ambulance NI Charity, said;
“We are so inspired by Niki and Darren’s fundraising challenge and we are humbled that they have chosen to support of wonderful work of Air Ambulance NI. As a service we rely heavily on charitable donations to keep the medical team in the air, delivering critical care to patients who have suffered trauma throughout Northern Ireland - without this type of support, the team simply couldn’t fly.”
“I want to take this opportunity to personally thank Niki, Darren and the team at Woodsides for their amazing support and to wish them the best of luck with this epic challenge.”
“Our Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) is as busy as ever, responding to on average 2 calls daily somewhere in Northern Ireland. Since we first launched in July 2017, Air Ambulance NI have been tasked to over 2,916 calls to date.”
“The charity Air Ambulance NI, in partnership with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, provides the HEMS for Northern Ireland. The HEMS team attend patients who are seriously ill or injured, bringing emergency pre-hospital care direct to the casualty with the aim of saving lives, brains and limbs. With a daily operational cost of £5,500, we sincerely thank Niki and Darren for this vital support.”
