The outlook globally is one of change towards the environment. Where once we were immune to the global destruction that was unravelling around us, we are now much more aware and attune to our lifestyle, choices and actions that we make, which ultimately contribute to the impact on the environment at large. Governments, businesses and people at large are taking action - including ourselves!
Corporate Responsibility at Woodsides
At Woodsides, we take sustainable best practice seriously! So much so, that our corporate vision reflects this - it outlines putting customers, employees, suppliers, safety and the environment at the heart of all that we do.
So here is where we've been making great in roads (no pun intended!) to addressing sustainability across our operations:
1.Investment in gas powered trucks
We are moving to more sustainable trucks and have purchased one CNG truck, with two LNG powered trucks being added to our fleet in the coming weeks. With the infrastructure for these vehicles now growing to accommodate refuelling throughout the country, we plan to purchase more in the near future. The rest of our trucks are Euro 6 compliant meaning that they comply with the latest European requirements.
We are open to trying other new sustainable trucks once they become available, and hope that one day all trucks will become electric.
2. Carbon offsetting initiatives
We are helping to reduce our impact on the environment by working with new and existing clients to offset carbon emissions through a number of tree planting initiatives. We can work with you to offset (where possible) the commercial transport route of your goods. Speak to us for more details.
3.Signing up to Operation Clean Sweep
Through (Haulage Services) our bulk tank transport division, we have signed up to Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) which is a commitment to helping ensure that there are no plastic pellets, flakes or powders released into the environment.
4.Driver fuel efficient driving
Our drivers receive 35 hours of periodic training which they must complete every five years. The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) is a qualification for professional bus, coach and lorry drivers. It has been introduced across Europe with the aim of improving road safety and maintaining high standards of driving to include fuel efficient driving.
5.Maintaining ISO 14001 accreditation
We have maintained our ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) standard. Woodside Logistics Group understands that our activities have an impact on the environment, and we are committed to the continual environmental improvement of our environmental performance. We seek to minimise waste, promote recycling, reduce energy and water consumption and, where possible, prevent pollution to the environment.
The company’s ultimate aim is year-on-year improvement in environmental performance. This will be demonstrated through the accomplishment of environmental objectives and targets set out on an annual basis. We are committed to complying with all relevant environmental legalisation, regulations and other requirements. This policy is publicly available and is communicated to all employees and sub-contractors via training and communication.
Our Aim
We aim to become one of the leaders in sustainable logistics. There is much more to do, but we now look at how all areas of the business can be improved and addressed for environmental best practice.
